No man is an island

Nor woman either. We all need other people but with the

breakdown of the extended family and the increase in the

number of people choosing to stay single, as well as poorly

designed housing, we are becoming increasingly isolated.

This is where community centres have an important role to

play. In my hometown of Leamington Spa I spend a lot of

at Bath Place Community Venture, which has lots to offer to

all sorts of different people. There is a nursery, a vegetarian

cafe, a cyber cafe for teens and tea dances for the elderly.

It is run by paid staff and volunteers and the atmosphere is very

relaxed and friendly. It is a place where people can meet to talk,

share their problems and make new friends.

The volunteers at Bath Place have formed a group which meets regularly

to build a website. It's purpose at first was to be an internet cafe but soon

eveyone became inspired and began talking about html and ftps and work

began on our website. Those with more skills help those with less and there

is the opportunity to go on training courses. I have just completed a course

on web site design at Fircoft College in Selly Oak, Birmingham. During this

course I created this website. We hope to obtain our own volunteers computer

Bath Place so that we can work on our website more often.
